The Beulah and broader Southern Mallee communities are mourning the passing of Tony Lehmann, who lost a long battle with illness over the weekend.

Tony Lehmann was a pillar of the Beulah community.

Tony's name is etched into local footballing folklore in the Southern Mallee.

Known affectionately by his nicknames 'Bullpit' or 'Teddy', he played an extraordinary 500 senior games for the Beulah Football Club, an achievement few across the country could claim.

His enduring presence, footballing abilities, and loyalty to the blue and white saw him not become just a player, but a cornerstone of the club and wider community.

Over the course of his career, Lehmann was part of six senior premierships for Beulah, playing a vital role in one of the region's proudest, and most successful, clubs.

In the 1982/83 North Territory Football League season, Tony was awarded the prestigious Nichols Medal for best and fairest player while representing North Darwin (now Palmerston).

It was a feat that confirmed what Beulah already knew, Tony wasn't just a great local footballer, he was among the very best anywhere he played.

Tony was the heart of his family and a pillar of the community.

Son of Ted and Vonnie, brother to Julie, husband to Trish, and proud father to Tyler and Marnie, Tony's warmth and loyalty extended to those around him, with friendships that spanned generations.

He was a much loved friend to Bec and Jesse, and 'Poppy' to Ardy, Rocco and Sonny, roles he cherished.
