Dimboola youthful rowers do the club proud

Dimboola Rowing Club headed to Rutherglen over the weekend to compete at Lake Moodemere at the Murray Rowing Association Regatta.

The threat of cancelling the rowing was high, due to the weather and the high level of smoke in the air.

Saturday turned out to be perfect and our 13 rowers, between the ages of 11 and 16, performed well.

Tonnis Wolthuis, Ben Salter and Rory Hallinan-Johns competed in the single scull class and double Sculls with finals being made by the enthusiastic rowers. Tonnis won his final of the Men’s D grade Scull on Saturday.

Brook Ward, Alyssa Petschel, Tilli Menzel with cox Tori Menzel showed much promise rowing against a lot of older and experienced rowers.

They made the final of the Female D grade Quad on both Saturday and Sunday, only missing out on the win by a mere canvas.

The older girls, Alex Salter, Tara Petschel, Maddy Toet, Freya Colbert and cox Tori Menzel did a great deal of boat hopping on both days, with finals being made in the Single and Double Sculls in the Under 17 and grade races.

They have certainly made the bigger city clubs take notice, winning the Female C grade Quad finals on both days and winning the big one on Saturday...the Female Open Quad.

It was great to have Pam Westerndorf, an ex-Dimboola rower, Olympian and world class rower cheering us on. She was there rowing for her club, Corio Bay.

She managed to find time a few weeks ago to spend time on the water with our kids coaching and rowing with them.
