WARRACKNABEAL district farmer Anthony Wilken says he’s pleased with the start to his cropping season.
Good rains across the district has provided the start to the season that farmers hope for, with many out in the fields already.
Mr Wilken said they are currently sowing wheat and also have barley, vetch, lentils and chickpeas in store for the season.
“It’s not often that we get rain around Anzac Day so its off to a good start. We are 50 percent of the way through our cropping,” he said.
Mr Wilken said they started their cropping season on April 10.
“It’s an excellent start to the season and we couldn’t be happier
“We have quite a few crops out of the ground already and our summer spraying has paid off as per usual,” he said.
Mr Wilken said with forecasts looking promising for this year, he hasn’t changed his plans.
“We don’t go chasing rainbows, as it’s easy to do in farming. We will just keep doing things as usual,” he said.
