Sofia Laursen Habel returned to her hometown for Christmas last year, and took the opportunity to put on a concert at the Warracknabeal Racecourse for her fans.

Titled “On Home Ground”, the concert attracted 162 patrons - many of whom had seen the Belle of Boolite‘s performance with Australian opera tenor Michael Lapina at Sheep Hill silos two years ago.

Others said they had heard such positive reviews of the Sheep Hills performance that they travelled from Ballarat, Bendigo, Casterton and Melbourne to see Ms Habel perform a repertoire of opera, musical theatre, Australian songs and Christmas carols.

Ms Habel’s mum, Heidi, said a beautiful night was had by all.

“The weather was good, and the kookaburras even joined in when Sofia sang Waltzing Matilda,” she said.

Sofia has returned to Copenhagen, where she is set to audition for a masters degree at the Royal Danish Conservatorium of Music.
