Juniors set to clash with Ouyen

The stage is set for the return of association junior cricket for the Warracknabeal Juniors. For the first time in many years the Warracknabeal District Junior Cricket Association will play an inter league game against local neighbours, Ouyen Cricket Association.

The team were put through their paces on Tuesday night at a training session held at the Brim Recreation Reserve. Following training association President Jack Vanderburg and Secretary Graeme Holland presented players with their official uniforms. Jackson Moore was announced as team captain and his Warracknabeal team mate Chad Hartnett was made Vice Captain of the rep side.

The game will be played on Sunday Feb 11 at Hopetoun starting at 10am. The one-day game will comprise 40 overs per team with all usual one-day game restrictions applying. This includes batters retiring at 5o runs and bowlers able to bowl a maximum of 8 overs each.

WDJCA President Jack Vanderburg has been working with secretary Boycie and Ouyen representative Nick Vine. To make the inaugural “Mallee Cup” junior game come to fruition.

The Warracknabeal team Squad of 13 players was selected are as follows.

1. Chad Hartnett (VC), 2. Jackson Moore (C), 3. Jaiden Cooksley, 4. Sam Williamson, 5. Max Robarts, 6. Oliver Holland (WK), 7. Harrison Williams, 8. Spencer Williams, 9. Parker Hallam, 10. Axel Decker, 11. Colt Decker, 12. Oliver Credlin, 13. Charlie Williams, 14. Rubee Crisp.

In local Cricket News, the regular junior season resumed on Saturday Feb 3rd at The Hopetoun ground in Round 6 of competition . The Warrack Stars won the toss and elected to bowl in the one day game. The Giants led by Charlie Williams scoring a top score of 13* Retired with the bad accumulated 60 in total. While the best of the bowlers for the stars was Chad Hartnett with 1 for 4 from his 3 overs. The giants ran out winners over the stars on this occasion as the stars could only manage 38 in reply.

Cricket returns to Brim this week for the last of the two day games before the Finale at the end of the month.
